In the last week of August, Piotr Woźniak visited Finland for two purposes. The first was his participation in the recurring PGF (Postglacial Fault) Symposium, held this time in Vaasa and hosted by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK; pol. służba geologiczna Finlandii). He gave a talk at the conference, co-authored a second contribution, and co-presented the field site at Pitkämö, near Kurikka. His second purpose was supplementary fieldwork at that same site for a paper on the deformation of glaciomarine sediments, prepared jointly with colleagues from Poland, Finland, Germany, and Sweden.
Kurikka and its surroundings have attracted geologists’ attention for years, including a large-scale hydrogeological project carried out there recently. This has translated into interest from local media (kurikangeologia.fi), who were present both at the conference and during the fieldwork at Pitkämö, as well as from local authorities – Piotr and his collaborators were hosted by the mayor of Kurikka.
