On May 28, the final guest seminar of our department this academic year took place (only the doctoral students’ presentations now lie ahead). The series was brought to a close by our colleague Mariusz Bąk from the Institute of Geoecology and Geoinformation at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (pol. Instytut Geoekologii i Geoinformacji UAM). In his talk, “Development and functioning of Sphagnum-dominated peatlands in Scots pine plantations in north-western Poland,” Mariusz presented the results of his research, which culminated in the defense of his doctoral dissertation. Among other things, we learned how the conditions for peatland functioning have changed in areas historically planted with pine.
Thank you for the visit, and we hope to see you again!
