From June 22–26, first-year students of Physical Geography with Geoinformation (pol. Geografia fizyczna z geoinformacją) took part in the summer school “Interdisciplinary Research on Transformations of the Natural Environment” (pol. „Interdyscyplinarne Badania Przekształceń Środowiska Przyrodniczego”), organized at the University of Gdańsk Centre for Monitoring and Protection of Waters (pol. Centrum Monitoringu i Ochrony Wód Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego) in Borucino. It was an intensive but energizing time of learning, practice, and fieldwork.
During the course, students learned limnological measurement methods on Lake Raduńskie Górne and Lake Raduńskie Dolne, carried out meteorological measurements, and collected peat cores, before finally analyzing and processing the collected data using GIS tools. The course was an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience with environmental research and working with field-collected data.
The course was led by Ewa Jakusik (Climate Research Laboratory), Kamil Nowiński (Limnology Laboratory), and Alicja Bonk and Aleksandra Orłowska from our department. Favorable weather, the beautiful setting of the station in Borucino, and a great atmosphere made even this intensive fieldwork a real pleasure. At least, that’s what we’re hoping!
