We are delighted to share that a new publication involving our colleagues has appeared in Regional Environmental Change. The authors are Alicja Bonk, Wojciech Tylmann, and Maja Łaska – our master’s student. Alicja is clearly on track for a record-breaking year!
The article reconstructs the history of fires and environmental change in northern Poland based on detailed lake sediment analyses. The study draws on charcoal, pollen, and sedimentological analyses, along with historical records. The results show that lake sediments can serve as an exceptionally valuable archive of landscape change – from the development of settlement and forest economy to human-related events, including battles, over the past roughly 800 years.
We are especially pleased about the contribution of Maja Łaska, a student at our department, whose research carried out as part of her bachelor’s thesis became part of this scientific publication. It’s a great example of how student engagement can lead to a genuine contribution to scientific research.
