Publication in Biogeosciences – peatland in Solska Forest

After conferences and seminars, it is time for another publication co-authored by Dominika Łuców. The authors traced over 2,300 years of transformation in a peatland in Puszcza Solska (Lublin Voivodeship), which evolved from a stable alder carr dominated – nomen omen – by alder, to a bog pine forest with a predominance of pine. Drawing on natural and historical archives, the authors demonstrated that the peatland had remained relatively stable for over 1,700 years. The situation changed between the 16th and 18th centuries, when the growth of settlement and forest management, leading to the expansion of pine forests, caused acidification of the environment, fundamentally transforming the peatland.
