International Geomorphology Week 2026

At the beginning of March, we celebrated the International Geomorphology Week. As in previous years, we actively took part in the events marking this occasion.

On March 3, the Commission on Innovative Research Methods in Geomorphology organised a session for young geomorphologists entitled “Innovations and New Methods in Geomorphology”, during which representatives of four academic centres delivered their presentations. Among the speakers was Aleksandra Orłowska from our Department, who presented the talk “Macroscopic Charcoal in Lake Sediments as an Indicator of Paleofires: Analytical Methods and Interpretative Potential”. Maurycy Żarczyński served as a co-organiser of the session on behalf of the commission.

The celebrations did not stop there. On March 4, Karol Tylmann co-chaired the session of the Commission on Glacial Geomorphology entitled “What Squeaks in the Ice, on the Ice, under the Ice, and in Front of the Ice? Glacial Processes and Landforms in Various Aspects”. He also delivered his own presentation: “3D Microtomography of Glacial Tills from the Baltic Sea Floor”.
