I am a physical geographer, and my previous research has focused on analyzing lake sediments, particularly annually laminated sediments and the macroscopic charcoal they contain, which enables the reconstruction of fire history.
Currently, in my doctoral research, I am working on reconstructing the history of vegetation fires in southeastern Australia based on analyses of macroscopic charcoal preserved in lake sediments. My research combines traditional methods of microscopic charcoal identification with modern reflectance measurements, which help determine the intensity of the studied fires. I am interested in the impact of climate change and human activity on the dynamics and characteristics of fires, as well as their consequences for ecosystem functioning.
