Spectrometric Analysis Laboratory

About the lab

In the laboratory, we measure the activity of Pb-210 and Cs-137 isotopes in sediment samples using alpha and gamma spectrometry. We assess elemental composition variability using micro-XRF scanning, perform microscopic analyses of thin sections, and measure the reflectance of charcoal particles extracted from sediments.

Equipment

  • μXRF spectrometer Tornado M4 (Bruker).
  • Alpha spectrometer (Canberra).
  • Gamma spectrometer with the HPGe well detector (Canberra).
  • Petrographic microscopes (Nikon i Zeiss).
  • Polarizing microscope (ZEISS) with photometer coupled to TIDAS system.
