New employee – Dominika Łuców

A few weeks ago, Dominika Łuców gave a presentation at our department outlining the assumptions of her new project, and on February 1st we welcomed her as the newest member of our team. Dominika has joined the group of assistant professors in our department and strengthened the ranks of the Paleoenvironmental Research Laboratory. She describes herself as follows:

“I am a geographer specializing in hydrology, meteorology, and climatology; however, my scientific work focuses on the study of peatlands and lakes. My research involves the use of single-celled microorganisms—testate amoebae—in lake studies and as quantitative indicators of hydrological changes in peatlands. I also analyze macroscopic charcoal as an indicator of past fire activity. Currently, my research focuses on assessing the biodiversity of testate amoebae occurring in lakes and their potential use for reconstructing environmental changes in the agricultural landscape of Central Europe. The research sites are located in Poland.”

Together with our team, she will work on a project funded by the National Science Centre:
“Lake Eutrophication: Assessing the Biodiversity and Potential Use of Testate Amoebae for Reconstructing Environmental Changes in the Agricultural Region of Central Europe”, 2025, National Science Centre, 2025/56/C/ST10/00482.

We warmly welcome you to the team and hope this marks the beginning of a wonderful adventure in the Tricity!
