On Thursday, January 15, we had the opportunity to gather for another seminar of our Department of Geomorphology and Quaternary Geology. Attendance was high, and the topics were diverse, as we listened to presentations by three of our new PhD students. Anjaly, Anugrah, and Bidisha have embarked on what we hope will be the adventure of a lifetime, leaving their home country of India to pursue doctoral research in our department.
- Anugrah Chettintavida delivered a talk entitled “Assessment of organic matter sources of a freshwater lake in the Himalayas”. Anugrah is a geochemist who has previously focused on paleoenvironmental reconstructions based on biomarker indicators and studies of human impact on aquatic systems. His supervisor is Wojciech Tylmann, with Maurycy Żarczyński as co-supervisor.
- Bidisha Gangopadhyay presented “An Appraisal of b-value in and around Bhuj Region”. Bidisha is a geophysicist whose research interests include seismic data analysis and near-surface geophysics methods. Her supervisor is Piotr Woźniak, supported by Karol Tylmann.
- Anjaly Suma Pacheerikattil gave a presentation titled “Petrographical, Mineralogical, and Geochemical Insights into Barail Sandstones of the Surma Basin”, discussing multi-proxy geochemical and mineralogical studies of sediments, including paleoprovenance and paleoweathering issues. Like Bidisha, Anjaly is supervised by Piotr Woźniak and Karol Tylmann.
We warmly welcome you to our department and hope that the winter conditions will not discourage you. We look forward to fruitful collaboration in the coming years!
