Biebrza NP – fieldwork

A few days ago, Alicja Bonk, together with our recent graduate Ola Orłowska and future bachelor’s degree recipient Barbara Biały, visited Biebrza National Park. The purpose of the trip was to collect research material following the extensive fire that swept through this unique area in April of this year.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Biebrza National Park for their support in organizing the visit—especially to Ms. Agnieszka Henel, who not only facilitated access to hard-to-reach areas but also generously shared her knowledge and passion, guiding us to places where nature—despite the dramatic damage—is beginning to recover.

During our fieldwork, we were also fortunate to observe several remarkable representatives of Biebrza’s wildlife, including a roe deer buck and even a fire-bellied toad—a small, protected amphibian.

This trip was not only a significant step forward in our research but also an unforgettable encounter with the wild and a powerful reminder of nature’s resilience, even in the face of great adversity.
